WHO ARE WE?

What is August?
August is a lifestyle period brand making period care for everyone who menstruates.

We’re on a mission to reimagine period care and destigmatize periods for ALL. Our journey began in January 2020, when we started gathering our Gen Z community together to identify gaps in period care. We spent two years working towards democratizing period health education and building our Inner Cycle community before finally launching sustainable and comfortable products in June 2021.

We deeply value inclusivity and transparency and actively work to ensure that August is and continues to be a brand that is inclusive of anyone who menstruates – regardless of gender, race, culture, ability, and socioeconomic background.

Why are you called August?
August stands for dignity and respect, and the word August (besides being a month of the year) translates to “majestic dignity.” We believe caring for your well-being is a noble pursuit, and at August, we hope to help ALL menstruators unlock their full potential and internalize this dignity throughout the month, every month.

PURCHASE OPTIONS

What’s the difference between a subscription and a one-time purchase?
A subscription purchase means you can choose to receive your box every 1, 2, 3, or 6 months. This is a perfect option if you don’t want to worry about running out of period products. You can modify or cancel your box anytime through your account. Plus, all subscribers receive a 10% discount.

A one-time purchase means you will only receive your box once. This is a great option if you want to try the products before starting a subscription.

What payment methods do you accept?
We currently accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as Google Pay, Shop Pay, and Apple Pay. If you use any of our third-party payment options, please make sure your shipping address is correct.

Do you accept HSA/FSA cards?
August period products purchased on Amazon are HSA/FSA eligible, allowing you to use your health spending card!

Our website's payment system currently doesn't accept HSA/FSA cards directly. Need documentation for reimbursement? Contact us at care@itsaugust.co and we'll provide all necessary information.

Are there samples available?
At this time, we don't offer sample products, but if you shop on our website itsaugust.co, or purchase our product in 400+ Targets, you can buy individual boxes to try out!

I want to still support August, but the pricing is a bit out of my budget? What should I do?

Great question!! We always want to be here for you <3 Here are some suggestions.

  1. If you subscribe to August, you’ll automatically receive 10% off every month! You can choose the frequency of when the box shows up, what’s in it, and it will all be shipped right to your door. You can always switch up what’s in your box by logging into your account at least 24 hours before your next box renews. And if you have too much product, you can always opt to skip your subscription box for a month by changing the date your box next renews.
  2. All orders over $50 will have free shipping! So stock up on a few months of period care products at a time!
  3. Don’t forget to subscribe to our email and text lists - so you can stay up to date on all our latest promos! This can be done via the homepage of our website.

What is the tampon tax? Does August charge the tampon tax?
The ‘tampon tax’ is an extra charge placed on menstrual products, despite them being similar to products that cis-men use for personal care.

20 states in the US still tax period products as non-essential goods. We think that’s B.S., so we cover that for you (where we can). If you purchase August from a third party retailer in any of the states that do currently have the tampon tax, we will Venmo (or PayPal) you back! Check out tampontaxback.com to learn more.

Please be sure to remove the inner paper liner and the paper tab. We recommend that you compost the wrappers in your municipal compost.

You can sign up for our email and text lists on our website. To subscribe to our text list, text “August” to 243-41. Message rates may apply.

How do you source your ingredients?
Our organic cotton is sourced from suppliers in Turkey.

Are August products organic?
August products are made of 100% certified organic cotton.

Do August products have titanium dioxide?
August products do not contain titanium dioxide. Here is a helpful article we wrote about it.

Are August products bleached?
The organic cotton in our products is bleached with peroxide. (No chlorine bleach!) This article explains this a bit more thoroughly and actually cites our med board member, Dr. Alyssa Dweck!

"First, organic tampons are typically made from 100 percent organic cotton unlike regular tampons, which are made of rayon and/or non-organic cotton. Organic tampons are also bleached with peroxide, while conventional tampons are bleached to be bright-white with chlorine. According to Dweck, when tampons are bleached with chlorine, it creates dioxin as a byproduct. Dioxin is a known carcinogen (a substance that is capable of causing cancer) and possible hormone disruptor, but—and this is a big but—the FDA requires all tampon manufacturers to monitor dioxin levels, Dr. Dweck says, so it's not something you need to worry about, says Dr. Dweck."

Can I exchange/return merch?
All merch is final sale. We don’t accept exchanges or returns. If your item arrives damaged and you purchased Navidium shipping insurance at checkout, please reach out to care@itsaugust.co and include a picture.

AUGUST PERIOD CUP

How much does the August Period Cup hold?
Our Period Cup holds 36mL (equivalent to 4 regular tampons).

What is included with the Period Cup?
Our Period Cup comes in a box with an instruction booklet and a storage/carry pouch.

What is the Period Cup made of?
It is made of 100% medical-grade silicone. The storage/carry pouch is 100% organic cotton and ethically made.

How to remove the Period Cup?

  1. Use the stem as a guide to help locate your period cup.
  2. The period cup comes with finger indents towards the bottom of the period cup, before the stem starts, which exists to help you find where to pinch the period cup to release the suction.
  3. You can also run your finger along the brim of the period cup inside the vaginal canal and poke your finger onto the wall of the period cup to break suction.

How to clean the Period Cup?
Make sure to boil your cup for no more than 7 minutes prior to the first use. During your flow, make sure to rinse your period cup and, if possible, use mild, fragrance-free soap to wash the period cup before reinserting.

To prevent potential infection, always wash your hands before removing or inserting the period cup. You can reduce the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), a potentially fatal disease caused by a toxin emitted from a common bacteria, by boiling your cup (for no more than 7 minutes) after your cycle is over, washing your hands with soap and water before handling the period cup, emptying the period cup on a more frequent basis, and thoroughly washing the period cup after emptying.

How long can I use the Period Cup?
The August Period Cup is intended to be re-used for your monthly period. Period cups are long-lasting if properly cared for. You should dispose of the period cup after up to 10 years of use, based on the manufacturer/material recommendation. Other reasons to change your period cup: possible period cup size change after childbirth, significant weight gain/loss or period cup change if its integrity seems compromised. When the time has come, buy a new period cup as needed (i.e. every 10 years if cared for properly)

Can I use the Period Cup overnight?
Yes! You can wear the Period Cup for up to 12 hours.
Is it safe to use the Period Cup if I have an IUD?

If you have an IUD inserted, be sure to break the suction of the period cup before removing it so as not to pull the IUD out with the force of the suction. There is a remote chance that failure to break the seal prior to removal can result in harm to the pelvic floor, including prolapse. If you have a history of pre-existing gynecological conditions, including the use of implantable contraceptive devices such as an IUD or a history of prolapse, please consult your healthcare provider before use.

Where is the Period Cup made?
The August Period Cup is made in the USA.

Why do I have multiple subscriptions?
When you purchase different August products on different delivery frequencies, our system creates a separate subscription for each unique frequency.

For example, if you order:

  • Light tampons on a 1-month frequency
  • Regular pads on a 3-month frequency
  • Liners on a 6-month frequency

You'll see 3 different active subscriptions in your Account Home. This gives you the flexibility to manage each delivery schedule separately.

Having multiple subscriptions allows you to:

  • Skip, pause, or cancel individual product deliveries without affecting others
  • Change quantities for specific products when needed
  • Update delivery dates for each frequency independently

This way, you can fully customize your period care routine based on your unique needs and usage patterns.

If you have any questions about managing your multiple subscriptions, please reach out to us at care@itsaugust.co!

Since our launch in 2021, we have donated over 290K period care products to menstruators in need!

AUGUST ADVOCATES

What is the August Advocate Program?
The August Advocate Program is a growing community of students who have successfully advocated for period care accessibility in their schools + community.

How can I become an active member?
Official AAP members are currently limited to students who successfully bring period care to their schools! As an August Advocate member, you will directly work with your school (or non-profit) administration to purchase August products for the restrooms.

How can I get August products in my school?
To get the ball rolling, you can do the following:

  1. Chat with your teacher or faculty member about how you are interested in bringing August period products to the bathrooms on campus
  2. Have your admin email care@itsaugust.co expressing interesting in bringing August to campus

We want to make a couple of things clear - as an August Advocates member, you will work directly with your school (or non-profit) administration to purchase August products for the restrooms. At this time, we will only be working with schools in the U.S. and will only be responding to emails from a teacher or faculty member.

Thank you again for taking the time to get involved with our August Advocates initiative. We can’t wait to potentially work with your school to make this happen!

Do you provide free period care in schools?
While the products would be free to you, your school would purchase the period care products, just like how they have to purchase toilet paper. Period products are essential!

How can I deepen my engagement with the program?
We’re kicking off a referral program with our AAP community. Currently, if you refer one additional school who successfully brings August period products to their campus, you will become an August Advocate Leader! And if you refer 5 schools who successfully bring August period products to their campus, you will become a Senior August Advocate Leader!

What are some benefits of being an AAP member?
Community is a huge part of our business, and our hope is to engage with this group as we grow. Whether you’re a member, leader, or senior leader in this community, we will be offering promotions, hosting events, sharing information, and ultimately deepening our relationship with you all. As always, if you have any ideas on what you would like to see from us, please let me know! We are stoked to stay connected with you and watch you help smash period stigmas!
