How does birth control affect you and your period?
Birth control can have a multitude of effects on your menstrual cycle. Potentially even stopping it altogether, it can ease period pain, lighten your flow, prevent acne, and more. Each of these effects do vary from person to person, however, so it is important to take all information with a grain of salt. The pill prevents your body from making hormones involved in ovulation and menstruation. The hormones in the pill can help with painful, heavy, or irregular periods. The pill may ease cramps and PMS, and it will usually make your period lighter and more regular. Some types of birth control pills can also help prevent acne, iron deficiency (anemia), bone thinning, cysts in your breasts and ovaries, and certain cancers.
